Chatterley-carvers for everything woodcarving related in East Sussex and Kent. Tuition, meetings where we get hands-on, exhibitions of our work at various events and even "zoom" sessions when necessary! Occasionally undertake commissions, but mainly hope to enjoy ourselves.

Have a go at something different, we are meeting again, and welcome newcomers. Complete novice? or expert? or inbetween, come and see what can be done. An inexpensive evening meeting where we all gain something.

We are a group of woodcarvers meeting weekly. Greta Chatterley, founder member of Chatterley Carvers, mentors and provides advice. All levels of experience are welcome. Following the recent shutdowns, we are resuming meeting at Frant Village Hall. We aim to share our experience and enthusiasm with others, however little or much they have done before.

We hope to learn together from each others experience, and over a few weeks, would discuss suitable timber, tools and their maintenance, design, techniques and finishing. Use of clay models, workholding and anything else can feature!

Another piece of work completed within a year of starting carving

This cap turns upside down to become a bowl (for nuts, keys or whatever)

A "greenman"  in sweet chestnut

A "Berserker". An Isle of Lewis chessman (replaces the rook).

Finished with Black Bison Wax, which enhances the depressions/shadows of the carving

We now meet as normal,  we have been taking part in a weekly "zoom" meeting. This is an opportunity to discuss our work, ask advice or anything else! If you would like to join us please use the contact form below. Some of our recent discussions are summarised below.

A few things to start with
